• 2. Particle Shape

The particle shape is a major factor in evaluating the quality of diamond micropowder. Usually, it is preferable that the particle shape of diamond micropowder is close to spherical. During the production process of diamond micropowder, non-spherical particles do not follow Stocks’ law.

Therefore, it is difficult to obtain products with concentrated particle sizes when there are many non-spherical particles. In quality inspection, the particle shape will affect the particle size detection. For products with many needle-like or rod-like particles, the particle size detection varies greatly and the consistency is poor.

In application, the particle shape will also affect the grinding efficiency of the products, resulting in many uncertainties.

The particle shape of diamond micropowder is often detected using an optical microscope.

• 3. Impurity content

The impurities in diamond micropowder refer to the non-diamond components in it, which can be divided into external impurities and internal impurities of the particles. The external impurities of the particles are mainly introduced from the raw materials and the production process, including elements such as silicon, iron, nickel, as well as calcium and magnesium.

The internal impurities of the particles mainly include iron, nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, etc., which are introduced during the diamond synthesis process. The impurities in the micropowder will affect the surface properties of the micropowder particles, making the product difficult to disperse. Impurities such as iron and nickel will also cause the product to have different degrees of magnetism, thus having an impact on its application.

There are many methods for detecting the impurity content of diamond micropowder, including the gravimetric method, atomic emission spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrometry and so on. Different detection methods can be selected according to different requirements in application.
